12/9/2011: I had an epiphany at “High Noon,” Amasis. It was right after you attempted to abandon me live on iPay-Per-View with the world watching. You handed me a microphone. Blindsided by your retirement announcement, I wasn’t ready to address our fans. I was lost in an array of emotions. My mind racing in a million different directions. It was in those moments, I discovered the source of all my problems. It was you, Amasis.

My world changed. I had been handed the exact opportunity I was searching for. The opportunity to turn my career around. To make my peers, the fans, the whole world, speak my name again. I wasn’t going to allow it to slip away like grains of sand through my fingers. Amasis, you were destined to become my stepping stone back onto the path of victory. I seized the ultimate opportunity.

You do not deserve the right to march under the sign of Osiris. You are a disgrace to the mask you wore on your face. Both of us are. You made us stray from our purpose. We had an agenda upon arriving at CHIKARA. We are warriors bred to battle and conquer. Somewhere along the way, you pulled the wool over my eyes. You lulled me into a false sense of security. I thought the dancing and the tomfoolery were the keys to victory. Then the accident happened. I was left without you. Heiracon flew off. I didn’t realize it then, but I was too dependent.



Admitting I was wrong is something I despise doing, but Wink was right. I was your pet. A pawn in your dance party. You never wanted me to succeed. With what partner did you win points toward title contention? Not Ophidian. Who did you vote into the "12 Large: Summit" round-robin? Who did Heiracon vote for? Not Ophidian. I had zero votes. You two abandoned me long before I abandoned you. I spent the last 6 months alone, broken. With no answers. With no guidance. You backed this snake into a corner, Amasis. You can't blame me for getting bit.

By the time “High Noon” was over, it was you left broken. Blinded and faceless. No longer will you embarrass our Diety, Osiris. No longer am I shackled to your wacky antics. I will return home with your mask as a trophy. With that sacrifice, I can shed the dead weight that I carry. It's time for me, a warrior marching under the sign of Osiris, to be reborn.

It’s only after you’ve lost everything, that you're free to do anything.

CHIKARA Blog: Icarus

12/16/2011: So you want me to tell you the story of how it all began? 2010 was the year it happened. I was younger then, younger than I am now. Things were different then, I was a man at that age: the master of a dangerous trio in CHIKARA, former King of Trios, Campeon, and Cibernetico victor. But as time passed, fate took upon a different path for F.I.S.T. The latest King of Trios had come and gone, and F.I.S.T. were non-victorious in that tournament. The weeks and the months dragged on and it became clear a hard choice had to be made. So, in the summer month of July, at Chikarasaurus Rex I took out the weakest member of F.I.S.T. I made a clear and vivid statement that weakness, hesitation, and failure were not acceptable.

Afterwards I walked all night, I walked as I had walked years before when my mind swam with guilt. I had thought of all the things I had done, and couldn't undo. And I longed for a moment's peace. As time passed, however, I came to know peace. Peace in that horrible rhythm of 1-2-3. The sound of victory. The sound of accomplishment. F.I.S.T. were predators once again. Predators with all-seeing eyes, meant to give our opponents detachment from victories, titles and false bravado. And as it came to be, I myself, and the world it seemed, forgot about the almighty and powerful Gran Akuma.



That is until he seized an opportunity like no other. The night before CHIKARA went live before the world with "High Noon," he returned. The mythological warrior rose from the ashes seeking vengeance. Upon seeing him, being a genial, forgiving man, I tried to make peace with him - although he is the father of lies. I could only come to ask "have we forgiven each other then?"

Before I got his answer, I observed a miscreant leaning on my car, parked just outside the Palmer Center. I had to immediately depart to shoo him away from my vehicle. When next we saw each other, in Philadelphia, you had some personal frustration with Greg Iron to vent. I can respect that. He is an irritating character to us all. You were justified in punting his face.

My partners in F.I.S.T. have cautioned me that you might be seeking some kind of revenge. I guess those 16 months off didn't enlighten you as to why you were forced out of our tightly knit trio in the first place. Akuma, you are a loser. You lose matches. You choke. In a pinch, no one can count on you. What choice did I have? I had to put you down.

Now I'm going to give you the choice I never had. Call off your meaningless stalking. Stay down like the wretched, abused animal you are, and do not show your face in Easton on January 28th. For if you do I will be forced to teach the forgotten first lesson: that I am powerful, beautiful, and without regret. I will once again do unto you what I did before. Leave you in the middle of the ring a battered and broken vagrant.

CHIKARA Blog: Veronica

12/23/2011: Philadelphia. February 1983. A major winter storm attacked with wind and snow. Before Old Man Winter came to bear, a group of nurses and doctors gathered all around to see this little girl, rumored to upstage a boy’s birth as being the biggest baby born in the hospital that day. When she arrived, her eyes sparkled. Her hair, blacker than a raven’s feather. Skin, sweet olive. A star was born.

Dad always told me this story because he knew I would grow up to change the world and those who surround me. I grew up with music playing in the house. Whether it was Dad playing his guitar or hearing my Grandma tickling the ivory. My Grandma was my muse since she always played her piano everyday and to emulate her wonderfulness, I had to practice everyday. The piano, to me, seemed so regular, just ordinary. When I discovered the harp, I became the angel destined to play it. It became my obsession to be the best.

At age 9, I received the highest, most distinguished award in music presented to me by former Mayor, Ed Rendell. I was also the youngest person to ever receive this award. I made history! At age 10, I performed in front of former First Lady Hillary Clinton and other global leaders for a charity benefit. By the time I reached high school, I became the envy of all, particularly the girls. Not only did our classmates want to see me perform on my silver harp; but the boys (most of all,) wanted to glance at this model-like beauty. In college, I decided to try the marching band for a change. Awarded the best and the most beautiful college majorette in the nation! Perfection does not take a second seat. Never in my eyes.



Then came Archie. I felt sorry for him, to be honest. Big teeth, gawky, stupid laugh, overly dramatic...always talking to himself or his hand. I guess I was obligated to be nice to him. “Big mistake!” shouted Grandma. Maybe she was right. There wasn't even enough money for me to get a new majorette outfit for the holidays after helping pay off attorney bills - and he DIDN'T EVEN WIN THE YOUNG LIONS CUP! Co Co bunny had some overnight visits at my house. Scratching up the furniture, eating everything in sight. I had to groom him, put his flea medicine on him, and clean up his doo doo butter mess. Now he’s gone because Archie can’t win a simple match! AAAHHHHH!!!!

My nails are bitten down to the skin, because I’m worrying about Archie embarrassing me again! My harp just sits in the corner along with all my awards, collecting dust. I should have listened to Grandma. We need wins! Not more whining, not more rambling - and no more crying about that God awful, I-really-want-to-put-a-bullseye-on-it, bald spot! A fan told me we look like William and Kate - well those two are winners! Treat me like the royalty I am! Archie, for the sake of our professional relationship, you need to work harder and train better. Otherwise, this princess, this beauty, this star, will shine without you!

1/6/2012: What a way to end a season!

In front of the world, live on iPPV at "High Noon," after a long chain of some of the most frustrating moments of my career, I finally gave Tursas his comeuppance in the best way imaginable - I made him quit. That's right, the seemingly unbeatable giant was forced to admit defeat. Forced to admit that I had his number. Forced to admit that with no help from a crooked referee or a goof with a tennis racket, Green Ant was only one hold away from sending Tursas packing. I can't describe how great that felt, or how elated I was that the war was over and I proved to the world that the art of submission wrestling overrules size and strength.



However, I'm not the only wrestler in CHIKARA who's always out to prove that they can hang with the best on the mat. I've had a couple singles matches over the course of my two year career with my trainer, mi maestro, Mike Quackenbush. Mike, we've tied up twice in a CHIKARA ring, and both times you proved you were the better wrestler. Twice, you've made me tap out. I have no shame in admitting that. On the mat, you might be the very best in the entire world. You showed me the ropes since day one, and I consider both of those matches to be learning experiences. But you know what? On November 13th, I tapped out the heaviest guy on the CHIKARA roster in the middle of the ring. After that, I feel ready to take on the world. Plus, I'm in the gym nearly every day working on my technique. I don't know that anyone is ever truly ready to get down on the mat with The Master of a Thousand Holds, but I guess I'm as ready as I can be.

The Proving Ground concept was introduced in the last few months of 2011 as a method in which to determine challengers for the ROH championships and thus far has provided numerous men opportunities to pursue the World, TV, and Tag Titles. Only one man has successfully passed the test thus far when Roderick Strong earned himself a future TV Title shot at “Glory by Honor X” by going the distance with Jay Lethal.

Now, in 2012, the door has been opened to the rest of the wrestling world to step onto The Proving Ground as see if they have what it takes to earn a championship match in Ring of Honor. The first match of the year has been set, a shot at the World Tag Team Championships will be at stake as representatives from CHIKARA have stepped up to the challenge, and the pair selected are no strangers to ROH competition.

Hallowicked & Jigsaw have answered the call for “The Homecoming 2012” and will attempt to earn a shot at the ROH World Tag Titles as they face 7-Time champions, Jay & Mark Briscoe in the "The Proving Ground".

For those unfamiliar, and as a reminder to those who are aware, the Proving Ground is a chance for any wrestlers from ROH, or outside ROH, to challenge a ROH Champion for the opportunity at a title match. If a challenger beats the champion or lasts the time limit he will get a future shot at the championship

“Bring ‘em all on.” said Jay Briscoe, “Chikara, Japan, Italy, Canada, Timbuktu…we don’t give a damn man. We’re fighters boy, night and day, hell when we ain’t got no one to fight…me and Mark fight each other. And it doesn’t matter if it’s each other or somebody trying to get a shot at our belts, we fight hard and we’ll fight dirty. We’ve been fighting for way too damn long to get our belts back just to let ‘em slip away, and we aim to treat this proving ground thing like we would a title match. Proving ground, proving ground…man that’s as appropriate a label as it gets when you’re stepping up to me and Mark boys. We are Ring of Honor, since day one we’ve been Ring of Honor, and ain’t no one in this place you should worry about proving yourselves to except us! Hallowicked, Jig, welcome back to ROH, hope ya’ll boys don’t regret it in the morning.”

Jigsaw & Hallowicked are not regularly a team when in CHIKARA competition, but they have been selected to represent CHIKARA PRO as they are two of their top wrestlers. The pair carrying a strong reputation, almost a decade of experience in this great sport, and Jigsaw is recently coming off his own extended tour of Japan. In their own way, they are the “day one” of CHIKARA, having come up through their system, and fought their way into the top tier of athletes competing there.
